Julian Carder has had a fascination for earthmovers from childhood, and at the age of 16 his passion led to him buying his first Backhoe Loader. He fully rebuilt the 1964 backhoe loader and restored it back to its former glory learning valuable mechanical and restoration skills along the way.
Having studied City & Guilds in Plant Mechanic, and then a National Diploma in Design and Manufacture he went on to study a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and completing a BSc (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Wales in 1999.
In 2004 he joined JCB as Worldwide Product Marketing Manager for Backhoe Loaders. Responsible for leading the product development, sales and marketing of Backhoe Loaders and now General Manager for Backhoe Loaders.
In 2013 purchased a JCB 3CMKIII and undertook a full restoration which set a new standard in classic plant restoration which surpassed any previous restorations and far reaching standards which other struggle to reach.
In 2016 was commissioned by Haynes Publishing as the author of the ‘JCB 3C MKIII Owners Workshop Manual’ which included a chapter about the restoration of a JCB. As per quoted in their synopsis of the book “He is an acknowledged expert in both modern and vintage plant machinery’.
In the magazine Classic Plant & Machinery, July 2018, the editor (Peter Love) wrote ‘”I often get asked who I would recommend to have a machine restored by?…..the ‘king’ just has to be Julian Carder”.
In 2022 Julian had the privilege of driving the 3CMKIII he restored, accompanied with a MK1 Major Loader he had also restored, through the streets of London. As a Platinum Jubilee Pageant Partner, #JCB machines were honoured to have taken part in the Pageant to celebrate the reign of HM The Queen.
In 2023, Julian Carder’s expertise supported the team who restored the JCB 3CMKIII features on CarSOS.
